Passionate about sharing the love for our planet Earth, I offer a variety of geology-themed walks in and around Bristol in the South West of England, through my organisation Steps in Stone. I love the Deep Time Walk for how it connects us with the beauty of our world, the wonder of our evoluntionary journey, and the urgency with which need to act in service to our home. I offer walks public walks, and bespoke events for community groups, businesses, universities and schools.
Great walk and talk in Ashton Court, learning about the Earth's story according to geology. Mathilde is a brilliant science communicator, making what is incomprehensible into something relatable and understandable. I have a sense now of these millions and millions (and millions) of years because we marked them out in metres. This is how learning should be: imaginative, fun and physical.
The Deep Time Walk led by Mathilde and Mark is a revelation. I didn't know that walking through time could have such an impact on me emotionally, spiritually and physically. The walk is beautifully curated and held, there's plenty of information but not too much, a chance to talk with other walkers, an opportunity to be quiet and walk among trees and invisible stars. I can't recommend this walk highly enough - or praise the two leaders enough for their care, insight and skills.
Mathilde and Mark have a special gift of bringing together the experience of life in the here and now with the vastness of geological time in a way that left me grateful for not only the experience but for my life itself. In doing this through the walk and by gentle invitation to make contact with others it became a wonderful shared experience of togetherness.
